Search by website address

Type a website into the search box on Businesses to find the business that owns it.

How-toChecked 2026-10-10

You will find the business behind a website you already have.

Steps

  1. Open The UK book, then Businesses.
  2. Type the website in Name, website or keyword, for example marshkeel.example. You can leave off https:// and www..
  3. Press Enter.
  4. Click the row to open the record. The Website column shows the address Adapt holds.

The box is labelled "Name, website or keyword" because a website is one of the things it looks for.

If nothing matches the whole address

Adapt tries the brand part of it (here "marshkeel") and says what it searched for instead. Check the result is the right business before you rely on it: a brand word can match more than one. Compare the town, the sector and the website on the record.

If you have a whole file of websites

Use Enrich a list under Data. Upload your file and it matches each row by website first, then by company name with its postcode. See Enrich a whole list.

If the website is a group's

A shop in a chain can show the group's website. The record's line "Part of" and the Locations on the group tell you. See Groups, head offices and branches.

What it does not do

  • It does not read the website live. It matches the address held in the book.
  • A business with no website in the book cannot be found this way. Search by name: Search for a business by name.

If something goes wrong

Try fewer characters, or just the brand word. See Record and search problems, by message.
