Make someone an admin

The owner can change a member's role to admin by asking Ask Adapt. There is no screen for it.

How-toAdminChecked 2026-10-10

You will have changed one person's role to admin, so they can invite members and manage others.

What an admin can do

An admin can invite members, see everyone's email address, suspend or deactivate members, and read the audit log. An admin cannot make anyone else an admin. See Roles: what an owner, admin and member can do.

Before you start

  • Only the owner can grant or remove the admin role. An admin who tries is told "An admin can only change members."
  • The person must already be an active member. If they are not, see Add a teammate first. You can also invite them as an admin straight away.

Steps

  1. Open Ask Adapt.
  2. Type, for example: "Make Aaron an admin".
  3. Ask Adapt shows an approval card, "Set a member's role to admin". It lists the person and the role, and says: "Their role changes after you approve. They are not removed."
  4. Press Change the role to approve, or Cancel.
  5. The card shows Done.

Taking it back

Ask in the same way, "Make Aaron a member". The last admin must stay an admin, so you cannot remove the last one. Nobody can change the owner's role or status.

What gets recorded

The change goes in your organisation's audit log with ids only. There is no page to read it yet. See Read the audit log.

If something goes wrong

  • "Only the owner can grant or remove an admin."
  • "The owner's role and status cannot be changed."
  • "The last owner cannot change their own role or status."

All of these are explained in Team and access messages.
