Groups, head offices and branches
How a business that has several sites appears, where the head office is, and how phones and people are kept per site.
Some businesses are one site of a larger group, or the head office of one. Adapt keeps each site as its own record and links them.
How you tell
- In the results table, a small line under the name says "Part of {group} ยท 12 locations", or "Head office".
- On the record, the Company card shows Part of with a button for the number of locations, or Site type: "Head office of a group" or "One site of a group". A group site's card is titled Site.
- The Locations tab appears, with a count.
- The Filters panel's Company type has Independent, Multi-site and Head office, and Part of a chain or group under About the company.
The Locations tab
At the top: the group's name, how many locations, and how many registered companies it covers. A filter box searches name, town or postcode.
- The head office is shown first, with a Head office pill and a line "Why:" saying what makes it the head office. If nothing on file says which site it is, the tab says "No head office is named" and picks none.
- Other sites are listed as cards, grouped by the registered company that runs them. Each shows its address, its own phone line if we hold one, and its director if named. Open this location opens that site's record. "You are here" marks the one you are on.
- A very large group shows the first part and says so.
The tab notes: "Each phone is shown on the location it belongs to. A number seen only on the group's shared pages is not given to any one site."
People in a group
On the People tab a This location / Whole group switch appears. Whole group reads everyone at the group's sites, with a pill for which site each person is at.
Why a branch shows no company of its own
A shop that belongs to a group often does not have its own company number. A site run by a franchisee does. The record shows "Operated by" or "A service of" the company that runs it where we know it. A number found on a group's website is not treated as proof that a given shop is that company.
About this address
When many businesses share one building, the About this address card says what the address is and who runs it. See The cards on a company record.
Not built
A separate head office record, and regional managers shown per location, are not there yet. The Locations tab shows what is held.
