Handle a request to be removed

Add the person to your own suppression list the same day, and send them to Adapt for removal from the book.

How-toChecked 2026-10-10

You will have stopped contacting the person the same day, and told them how to have their details removed from the UK book.

This is guidance, not legal advice. PECR and UK GDPR apply to you as well as to Adapt.

Why there are two parts

For what you hold yourself (your lists, CRM and campaigns), you are the controller. Adapt does not run those requests for you. For details in the UK book, Adapt handles removal, and anyone can ask, free, without an account.

Steps

  1. Stop contacting them today. Open Settings, then Suppression list. Add their email address, or the domain if the whole business has asked. Press Add to the list. See Mark a business as do not contact.
  2. Stop active campaigns. If they are in an email campaign, pause it or have them unsubscribed. See Unsubscribes and the do-not-email list and Pause, resume or stop a campaign.
  3. Remove what you hold. Take them off any export file you made, and out of your CRM if you added them there.
  4. Tell them how to be removed from the book. Ask them to email hello@adaptleads.co.uk with the subject "Data removal request", or use the Remove my data link on the website or the contact form and choose "Data removal".
  5. Reply to them. Say what you have done.

What Adapt does with a request

Kind What Adapt does
Access Finds the records and replies.
Erasure Suppresses the details everywhere and keeps a minimal hashed record so they are not added back.
Objection Suppresses them, as for erasure.
Rectification Corrects it.

Adapt promises to reply within 30 days from the day the request arrives. Erasure can be refused in part where a legal duty or claim applies, and a reason is recorded.

What happens next

Once a person is removed from the book, the details no longer appear, including in exports you have not made yet. A name or contact can show "held back for a moment" while a removal check runs. See Data requests: access, erasure and objection.

If something goes wrong

If the person says they are still being contacted, check your suppression list entry for typos and whether a campaign is still running. See Opt-outs and the suppression list.
