The spam check and the copy rules

What Run spam check looks at, which rules block a campaign, which only warn, and how to pass.

ReferenceChecked 2026-10-10

The spam check reads every email in the campaign and the sending domains of the mailboxes you chose. A campaign cannot launch until it passes, and it must pass again after any change.

How to run it

On the Options tab, under Before it can launch, click Run spam check. Unsaved changes are saved first. It shows Passed with a score out of 100, or Found things to fix with a list.

What stops it passing

Items marked Must fix:

  • A step with no subject or no body.
  • Long dashes, such as the em dash or en dash.
  • These phrases: "happy to", "touch base", "just floating this", "hope this finds you", "hope this email finds you well", "circling back", "quick win", "game changer".
  • {{companyName}} or {{city}} more than once in one variant.
  • More than one clear ask in an email.
  • Failures from the copy checker's blocking rules.
  • A sending domain with SPF, DMARC or MX marked fail: see Sending domains, SPF, DKIM and DMARC.

What only warns

Items marked Worth a look do not stop launch:

  • Step 1 outside 50 to 80 words.
  • A subject over 70 characters or under three words.
  • More than one link, or any image.
  • Triple exclamation marks and all-caps words.
  • Stock spam trigger phrases.

The score drops 35 for each blocking item and 5 for each warning.

What it does not check

It does not check that your email names who you are or gives a way to opt out. That is your job: see Unsubscribes and the do-not-email list and The rules for cold email, PECR and UK GDPR. It does not prove inbox placement. Use a seed test: Deliverability basics.

After you change anything

Editing, adding a lead or changing the schedule makes the last check stale. The row says The content changed since the last check. Run it again.
