Deliverability basics

The habits that keep cold email out of spam, and the tools in Adapt that help you check.

Deliverability is whether your email reaches the inbox rather than spam or nowhere. It depends on the domain, the mailbox, the list and the words.

The habits

  1. A separate sending domain. Do not risk your main company domain.
  2. Authenticate it. SPF, DKIM and DMARC: Sending domains, SPF, DKIM and DMARC.
  3. Warm up for two weeks before the first campaign: Warm up a mailbox.
  4. Start small. About 30 a day per mailbox, with a gap between emails: Sending limits and why they exist.
  5. A clean list. Verified addresses, no repeats, and no one who asked to stop: Bounces and email status labels.
  6. Plain short copy. One ask, no images, one link at most, no all caps: The spam check and the copy rules.
  7. Watch replies and bounces. Stop if bounces rise.

Tools in Adapt

  • Run spam check reads the copy and the sending domains.
  • Send test sends one email to yourself.
  • Seed test sends step 1 to your own warm-up inboxes, ideally across Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo and iCloud. It picks one inbox per provider by default. Open each one and check the email landed in the inbox, not spam or promotions. It emails no lead. It needs warm-up inboxes connected.
  • Health score on Email accounts.

What none of this proves

Nothing guarantees placement. Opens are not tracked, so Adapt cannot tell you that an email was seen. The reply rate is the real signal.
