How LinkedIn posts go out
What has to be connected for a scheduled post to publish, and what each post state means.
A post goes out on its own at its time only when LinkedIn posting is connected for your account. Otherwise it waits.
What the page tells you
Write and Schedule say which of these applies.
| Message (in short) | What it means |
|---|---|
| Scheduled posts go out on their own | Connected. Posting as the name shown. |
| Automatic posting is not switched on yet | Nothing is published. Posts wait on the calendar. |
| LinkedIn is not connected yet | Posts wait on the calendar. Connect it and they go out. |
| Your LinkedIn connection has ended | Posts are on hold until you reconnect. |
| The connection ends in some days | Posts still go out, but LinkedIn does not let it renew itself, so reconnect before then. |
Post states
- Draft: saved with no time. Never published.
- Scheduled: has a time. Goes out then if posting is connected.
- Posted: went out. It is not edited, moved or sent again.
- Needs attention: something stopped it. The reason is stored with the post and shown from the post's menu. Your text is kept.
- Archived: never published.
Rules that stop a post
Every post is checked against the publishing rules at the moment it goes out, whether it was scheduled or you pressed Post now. A post that fails is marked needs attention with the reason, and is not sent.
Post now
Post now asks first and only works when posting is connected. It publishes the same way a schedule does. Posts are public posts on your own profile.
Posting is the one thing Adapt does for you on LinkedIn
Posts go out through LinkedIn's own connection, not through the extension. Comments never do. See What Adapt never does on LinkedIn.
