Suppression and do-not-contact on lists and searches
How your suppression list marks or hides businesses in Businesses, Directors and lists, and what it does not cover.
Your suppression list is the set of email addresses and website domains you never want to contact. Adapt uses it to mark or hide matching rows where you search and where you work with lists. You manage the list in Settings. See The suppression list.
What you see
When rows on a page match your list, a bar above the table says one of:
- "N rows on this page are hidden by your suppression list." with a Show them button.
- "N rows on this page are on your suppression list, labelled below." with a Hide them button.
Shown rows carry a red On your suppression list pill in the Record column, or Suppressed by you next to the email in your revealed tables. Hidden is the default. Click Show them to see which, and Hide them to put them away again.
It applies on Businesses, Directors, a list's page, All revealed and Revealed people.
How a match is made
A row matches when its website is your listed domain or a subdomain of it, or when one of its revealed emails is your listed address or ends in your listed domain. A domain entry such as example.com covers every address at it. Matching is on the page you are looking at.
What it does not do
Exports do not apply it
Exports do not remove anyone on your suppression list. The Settings page says "Exports do not apply this list yet, so check an export before you send from it." Check the file against your list before you send from it.
- It does not stop you opening a record or revealing it.
- It does not match by name. Add the address or domain.
- It is separate from Adapt Outreach's own do-not-email rules. See Unsubscribes and the do-not-email list.
- It is yours alone. It is not shared with other accounts.
Adapt's own removals
When a person asks Adapt to remove their details, that is handled across the whole book, and the details no longer appear. A name or contact held back "for a moment" while a removal check completes shows as "Name held back for a moment". See Opt-outs and the suppression list.
Do-not-contact and the law
Whether you may contact someone is guidance for you to take seriously, not legal advice: PECR and UK GDPR apply. See PECR and UK GDPR in plain words for a B2B seller. Adapt does not screen numbers against the TPS.
