What the progress line, the bars and the table show, and how to save, export or download the matches.

How-toChecked 2026-10-10

You will know how many rows matched, why the others did not, and you will have the matches saved, exported or beside your own file.

While it runs

A panel shows "Matching {file}", a bar and "Matched N of M rows ยท N matched to a business". Click Stop to stop after the current batch. The panel says "Stopping after this batch". If you stop, a note says "Stopped. N of M rows are matched and N are waiting." with Carry on.

Matching goes in batches, one after another. If three batches in a row fail, it stops by itself.

When a batch fails

A note says "N rows were not matched" and which rows, with the reason and Try these again. Rows from other batches are kept.

What you got back

Four bars, out of the rows the book answered:

Bar Meaning
Matched to a business Rows found in the book
Named director Matches with a named director
Email on file Matches that hold an email
Phone on file Matches that hold a phone

A line says matching does not use your allowance, and counts rows left out: outside the UK, or with no company name or website.

The table

Column Meaning
Your row Your company name and postcode, with its row number. Click it to open a panel with everything in your file for that row.
Matched business The business, as a chip. Click to open its record.
Matched by Website, Email domain, Name and postcode, or Name
Sector, Location, Email As on Businesses
Contact Reveal or Revealed

Filter with All rows, Matched or Not matched. A row that did not match says why: "Outside the UK, so not matched", "No company name or website to match on", "No confident match", or "Not matched: the batch failed".

What to do with the matches

The Next panel offers three things.

Button What it does
Save N matches as a list Opens New list with the matches in it and your file's name suggested. See Make a list.
Export the matches Opens the export sheet for the matches. Only revealed ones go in the file. See Export businesses to a CSV file. A long list goes out in parts of 25,000.
Download your file with the matches Your own columns first, then ours: Adapt match, Matched by, Matched business, Sector, Town, Postcode area, Website, Named director, Email on file, Phone on file, and a link to the record. Does not use your allowance.

The downloaded file says Yes or No for director, email and phone, not the details. To get the details, reveal and export.

Start again

Start again at the top clears the page. Your original file is untouched. Nothing was written to your account unless you saved a list.
