The UK book in plain words

What kind of business is in the UK book, how current it is, and what it is not.

ConceptChecked 2026-10-10

The UK book is Adapt's searchable collection of UK businesses and the directors named against them.

What is in it

  • Registered companies, including limited companies, LLPs and PLCs.
  • Sole traders and partnerships, which have no register entry. Their records are labelled as such.
  • Charities and other organisations that publish themselves.
  • Directors, as named people on the register.

Business-context details only: names, addresses, business phone numbers, business emails, websites and director names.

What it is not

  • Not consumer data. It is for contacting businesses.
  • Not complete. A record says what is missing, or says "At ceiling" when nothing more exists.
  • Not a guarantee. Labels tell you how far to trust each fact.

How current

Each field carries when it was last checked, so you judge freshness field by field. The Data health page counts the book when you open it. Nothing there is typed in by hand.

Counts

Totals change. Look at Data health for today's figures rather than any number in a help page.
