Phone number labels: Landline, Mobile, Switchboard and more
What the labels on a phone number say, and what they do not say.
A phone number shows its type, so you know what you are about to ring. The type describes the line, not the person.
The labels
| Label | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Landline | A fixed line. |
| Mobile | A mobile number. |
| Landline or mobile | The number could be either. |
| Internet phone | A number that runs over the internet. |
| Freephone | A free-to-call number. |
| Premium rate | A number that costs the caller extra. Think before you ring. |
| Business line | Shown beside a person's number on a person record. |
| This site's own line | A number printed on the business's own website. |
What you should know
- Numbers show once you reveal the record. See What a reveal is.
- A number belongs to a business unless the record says otherwise. Whether you may call it depends on PECR. See PECR and UK GDPR in plain words for a B2B seller.
- Adapt does not check numbers on the TPS or CTPS lists. Do that yourself before a campaign of calls.
