What a skill is
A skill is a folder of instructions that says which tools a job may use, who approves, and what it may cost.
A skill is a folder holding one SKILL.md file. The file says what a job is for, which tools it may use, whether the person approves each change, and how much it may cost. Adapt Leads' agents, such as the Search agent, run skills.
Why skills exist
A skill keeps three things in one place that is checked before it runs: the plain instructions, the list of tools it may call, and its limits. A skill that asks for a tool that does not exist, a tool that reads as deleting or cancelling, or a tool that changes things without an approval card is refused when it loads and never runs.
What a skill can and cannot do
- It reads, and it prepares cards. Every card is approved or cancelled by a person in the app, through the same approval step as Ask Adapt. See Approvals and cards: why Adapt asks first.
- It never sends, writes a record, spends a credit, or starts a campaign by itself.
- It never decides a fact about a business. It carries words to an AI helper and brings words back.
- It has a ceiling on rounds, cost and cards for one run, set in the file.
The format
Skills use the open Agent Skills layout: SKILL.md with YAML front matter and Markdown instructions. Adapt Leads' extra settings sit in the standard metadata map. See The SKILL.md file format.
What you can do today
| You can | You cannot |
|---|---|
| See the skills on the shelf | Upload or edit a skill |
| Run one with a sign-in token | Run one with a connector key |
| Approve the cards it makes | Make it approve its own cards |
Example
The Search agent skill reads your Insights feed, picks at most five signals, and prepares one "reason to call" card for each. It says how sure it is of each, and says the cards wait for you. Nothing is added or sent until you approve.
